How are AQA A-level Biology grades worked out?
From your total across the three papers out of 260 (91, 91 and 78 marks, with no scaling). AQA sets the qualification boundaries after marking each summer. The paper boundaries it prints are notional guides and are never added up.
Why are there no 2020 or 2021 boundaries?
Summer exams did not take place in those years, so AQA published no June boundaries for them.
Can this tell me the 2027 boundaries?
No. AQA sets them after the 2027 exams. The tool shows only a labelled scenario: the range each boundary took in past years.

How we work this out
What it does
In June 2026, an A* needed 199 out of 260 and an A needed 174.
AQA A-level Biology (7402): the qualification boundaries out of 260 and the notional paper boundaries AQA printed for each June series in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022 to 2026. There were no summer exams in 2020 or 2021, so those years are absent.
Method
- Add your three paper marks: Paper 1 out of 91, Paper 2 out of 91 and Paper 3 out of 78. AQA does not scale them, so the total is out of 260.
- Compare the total with the qualification boundaries AQA printed for the June you pick. A boundary is the lowest total that gets that grade; below the E boundary is a U.
- The distance to each boundary is the boundary minus your total. With only one or two papers entered, it is the marks still needed from the papers left.
- For 2027, no boundary exists yet. The tool shows the range each boundary took across the past Junes you choose (2023 to 2026, or every June series), and the grades your total would have had across that range.
