  • With a free account: your likely A-level Maths grade as a range, the skills to fix first, a two-week plan and every answer worked through.
  • Your result and plan stay in your account, ready when you come back.

How the range is worked out

  1. Each question has a difficulty level. Difficulty levels are set by our question writers.
  2. We find the ability that best explains how many you got right, allowing for how hard those questions were.
  3. We place that ability among the 79,068 UK students who sat Edexcel A-level Maths in 2026, and read the grade from Pearson's published shares: 17.1% got A*, and 41.5% got A or above.
  4. Fifteen questions cannot pin down one grade; a full past paper narrows it.
  5. It assumes you sat the exam now. In Year 12, the Year 2 topics will pull it down until you have learnt them.

Questions

Is it only for Edexcel?

The questions follow Edexcel 9MA0, but every topic here is also on AQA and OCR A-level Maths, so the result is useful for any board.

How accurate is the grade?

It is a range, because 15 questions cannot pin down one grade. A full timed past paper marked against the grade boundaries is the closer check.

Is it like a real paper?

No. Real papers ask for written working and give method marks; this short check is multiple choice and tests the topics only. A full timed past paper is the closer check of your grade.

Can I use a calculator?

Yes. Every A-level Maths paper allows a calculator, and so does this diagnostic.

Do I need an account?

Not to take it or see your marks. A free account shows your likely grade, the topics to fix first and a two-week plan, and keeps them.

What does it cover?

Quadratics, surds, circles, differentiation, integration, logarithms, trigonometry, series, probability, the binomial and normal distributions, constant acceleration, pulleys and friction.
