Questions people ask

Do I have to standardise in A-level Maths?

Not to find a probability: your calculator gives P(a < X < b) directly. You do need Z = (X − μ) / σ when the mean or standard deviation is unknown, so write that step out.

What does N(60, 16) mean?

A Normal distribution with mean 60 and variance 16, so the standard deviation is 4. The second number is the variance, not the standard deviation.

Why is P(X = 50) zero?

X is continuous, so a single value has probability zero. That is also why P(X < 50) and P(X ≤ 50) are the same.
