Where to find the STEP 2018 boundaries
Each year's explanation of results gives the S, 1, 2 and 3 boundaries for STEP 2 and STEP 3, each out of 120. OCR lists the explanations of results from 2021 on its STEP scoring and results page, on the OCR website. The 2018 document was published at the time by Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing, which ran STEP before OCR.

Questions people ask
What was the STEP 2 grade 1 boundary in 2018?
It is printed in the STEP 2018 explanation of results, published at the time by Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing, which ran STEP before OCR. STEP 2 is out of 120: type that boundary above with your mark to see how far you were from a grade 1.
What was the STEP 3 grade 1 boundary in 2018?
It is in the same STEP 2018 explanation of results. STEP 3 is graded on its own, out of 120, so its boundaries differ from STEP 2's.
What mark did an S need in 2018?
S is the top grade, above grade 1, and its boundary is set each year for each paper. Take the 2018 figure for your paper from that year's explanation of results.
How is STEP marked?
Each paper has 12 questions, each marked out of 20. Only your six best answers count, so each paper is out of 120, and you have three hours.

How we work this out
What it does
Type a STEP 2018 boundary from that year's explanation of results and your mark out of 120: see how far you are from the grade.
STEP 2 and STEP 3 in 2018: each paper is out of 120 and graded S, 1, 2, 3 or U on its own. No boundary figures: OCR does not allow its tables to be republished, so you type the boundary from its explanation of results.
Method
- Pick the qualification and the papers or route you sit. We show the papers and the marks each is out of.
- Type the boundary for your target grade from the awarding body's document for the series you want to compare with.
- Enter your marks, leaving blank any paper you have not sat. Where a paper is weighted, its mark is multiplied by the weighting first.
- We add your marks and compare the total with the boundary you typed: the gap, and the share of the remaining marks you would need.
